Masoom Parmar

Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Masoom Parmar is a Regional and Asialink Arts alumnus and a Global ISPA Fellow for 2022 and 2024. A non-binary, queer artist and arts manager of Muslim-Zoroastrian descent from the Langha community, Parmar's work lies at the intersection of dance, ethnography, and literature, with a deep grounding in Haṭha yoga and traditional Indic temple and court dance forms. Their artistic practice explores the human body as a cultural and performative subject, delving into themes of identity, gender, and social constructs.

Masoom is the founder and director of Bengaluru-based arts management company Alif Arts Consultancy. Over the past decade, they have conceptualized and produced arts events and festivals ranging from intimate gatherings to large-scale productions. Additionally, Masoom teaches and facilitates a course in arts management, focusing on the Indian performing arts ecosystem. Their curatorial work celebrates the multiplicity and diversity of culture within the Indian subcontinent, with a particular interest in cross-cultural influences that have shaped various art forms.

This passion has led to the creation of two self-produced festivals: Koi Suntā Hai - A Festival of Bhakti, Nirgun & Sufi Poetry and The Platform, which highlights the talents of early and mid-career dancers across genres.

Masoom holds a bachelor's degree in Physiotherapy, blending a scientific understanding of the body with their artistic endeavors. In their free time, they enjoy reading across genres and hiking. Masoom deeply admires how Celebrate the Beat leverages the transformative power of dance to impact children's lives.

A fun fact about Masoom is that they speak five languages and understand nine!
