Vail Valley Foundation / YouthPower365

Serving Eagle County’s youth, the VVF/YP365 collaboration with Celebrate the Beat that began in 2007 has proven to be an effective model of partnership and seamless support of our CTB students across the Central Mountains. The genesis:

In 2007, Celebrate the Beat and the Vail Dance Festival hosted a one-week summer program titled “Pop Hop.”  We taught at Avon Elementary School and were embraced by Principal Melissa Rewald-Thuon.  The theme was celebrating Keith Haring’s art, and a wonderful relationship with The Keith Haring Foundation allowed us to use their logo to express the joy of our work!  We taught ten children and performed in front of the fountain in Vail village.

Leaders in Vail, including Ms. Thuon, believed our program had the potential to bring cohesiveness, joy, hope, love, and light to the schools in the Valley, and our first 3-week residency was in the spring of 2008 at Avon Elementary School.  That success inspired the leaders of the Vail Valley Foundation to continue supporting us, but on a deeper level, with the hope of having a full-time program in the Valley.

For the 2008-2009 school year, we ran three 15-week programs, and by 2009-2010, the foundation was generously underwiring full-year programming.

The growth:

From 2009-2020, Celebrate the Beat ran full-year programming in the valley, grew an after-school performance team (Celebration Team), and our Pop Hop grew from serving 10 to 120 children!  This was all made possible by the generous support of the Vail Valley Foundation’s YP 365 and individual donors who share the belief that all children benefit in unique and profound ways from professionally run arts programming.  Through the years, many extraordinary teaching artists led the Eagle County program, and Kris Ashley joined to spearhead growth in the Valley in 2013.  She remains the Eagle County Program Manager and is doing a fantastic job!

Now:

YP 365 now owns and administers the Eagle County program, titled ‘YP 365’s Celebrate the Beat,” with the artistic guidance of Founder and Artistic Executive Director Tracy Straus.
